I composed this in 1973 shortly after the death of Morten J. Luvaas, to whose memory it is dedicated. This recording is of a performance by The Allegheny College Choir, conducted by Ward Jamison, from a concert they gave in Heinz Hall for the Performing Arts, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (home of the Pittsburgh Symphony). It was given for a gathering of the Allegheny College alumni in the Pittsburgh area.

The concert was part of a year-long commemoration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of The Allegheny Singers by Morten J. Luvaas. The composer sang with this group and studied with Luvaas, 1950-1952, when he was a student at Allegheny College before transferring to the Eastman School of Music.
